Description:

The presentation aims to advance the understanding of self-incineration, the act of deliberately setting fire to oneself as an act of suicide. The presentation will report the findings of an analysis of 48 cases of suicide in the West Midlands, UK between the 1st January 1993 and 31st December 2013.  

 

The presentation will cover, common themes, as well as the circumstances pertaining to the cause of death, the chosen location, whether an accelerant was used by the victim or not and what subsequent levels of carbon monoxide (CO) found in victims’ blood can tell us.
