Craig has been a member of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) for 24 years fulfilling roles of firefighter, crew commander and watch commander. He has been investigating fires since 2005 at an Incident Commander level then as a full time Fire Investigating Officer since 2021.


Joining SFRS Fire Investigation Unit, Craig attained his SFJ Level 5 certificate in fire investigation with Gardiner Associates Training and research (GATR) and Fire Science and Fire Investigation certificate with Edinburgh University. Craig is also an active member of Internation Association of Arson Investigators. With over 4 years’ experience in Fire Investigation, and as Lead Fire Investigation Officer for Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS), Craig has investigated several fire incidents involving domestic, commercial and industrial properties and managing more than 50 fatal fires.


Additional responsibilities within his managerial role at SFRS include training and mentoring Senior Officers, Fire Investigation Officers and Operational Personnel. Craig has also contributed to numerous research and development projects which have had a direct impact upon SFRS policy and strategy improving firefighter and public safety.
He is actively involved in developing and delivering presentations to Crime Scene Managers within Police Scotland, and local government.

Craig is one of the leads within the National Lithium-ion battery working group, National EV vehicle working group, Edinburgh Airport solar panel working group and Edinburgh Airport Multistorey car park working group. He has delivered presentations at national and local level. He has also worked collaboratively across multi-agency partnerships and with world renowned Fire Investigation Experts on high profile cases.
