Hewlett-Packard Company Announces Recall of Notebook Computer Batteries

30 October 2008: Hewlett-Packard ("HP") announced a voluntary recall of the
following consumer products. Customers should stop using recalled products
immediately unless otherwise instructed.

Name of Product: Lithium-ion Battery Packs used in HP and Compaq Notebook
Computers

Units: About 74 000 battery packs worldwide, including about 35 500 in the
Europe/Middle-East/Africa (EMEA) Region, mainly in the EU.

Producer: Hewlett-Packard Company, of Palo Alto, California, USA.
Hazard: These lithium-ion batteries can overheat, posing a fire and burn
hazard to consumers.

Description: The recalled batteries were shipped in, or sold separately for
use in, notebook computer products manufactured between December 2004
and June 2006 and have bar-code labels starting with A0, L0, L1, or GC.
Hewlett-Packard and Compaq Notebook model series that may contain a recalled
battery include:The notebook model is located in the service tag label
on the bottom of the notebook.The location of the battery labels is shown in
the pictures below.

Sold Via: National and regional computer and electronics stores, computer
resellers, and online stores including those of HP.
Remedy: Consumers should immediately remove the "A0, L0, L1, or GC"
coded battery from their notebook computer and contact HP to determine if
their battery is included in the recall and to request a free replacement. After
removing the recalled battery from their notebook computer, consumers can
plug in the AC adapter to power the notebook until a replacement battery arrives.
