Dave joined the Fire Service in 1993, serving in a number of roles over the past 30 years. He was the fire investigation lead within Humberside Fire and Rescue Service and the chair and active member of the Yorkshire and Humber regional Fire Investigation team, representing the region with the work of the National Fire Chiefs Council (NFCC).
He was the representative of the NFCC in the production of the second edition of the Code of Practice for Investigators of Fire and Explosions for the Justice Systems in the UK, the author of the Fire Investigation Competency Framework document and the lead for the production of the NFCC Fire Investigation Standard.

Having completed Fire Investigation foundation training with Gardiners Associates; he has progressed his Fire Investigation career through to completing a MSc in Fire Scene Investigation in 2017 and also holds the level 7 Advanced Professional Award in Expert Witness Evidence and an Advanced Professional Certificate in Legal Skills in Investigation. He is a fellow of the UK Association of Fire Investigators, a member of the Institute of Fire engineers, the Chartered Society of Forensic Sciences and the International Association of Arson Investigators.

Dave is also a member of the Technical Assessment team for the United Kingdom Accreditation Service (UKAS) in relation to ISO 17020.
