If you bought one of our televisions between January 1985 & August 1988, we would like to hear from you urgently on the Freephone number: 0800 7000970
During the course of out continuous quality assurance programme we have discovered a serious defect in some of the sets sold during this period. Regular inspection of durability shows that the on/off switch can deteriorate rapidly which can lead to overheating. In a high technology electrical product like a television this could lead to a fire risk, although we would stress that this is unlikely. We don't want to take the slightest risk so please ring the number shown.
We would like to get in touch with everybody who owns or rents a Sony television set from this period. If you prefer to write rather than phone please use the address below. There is no stamp required.
When you telephone or write we will be able to tell you immediatley if any action is required to ensure the continuing safe operation of your set. To help us, therefore, please have the model and serial number of the set available when you contact us. (We also need your postcode and details of where the set was bought if known.)
Should your set be affected, we will need to make a simple modification and a service call will be arranged to your home without delay. All costs will, of course, be met by Sony. Once this has been carried out, we are sure that your television will give excellent service.
Please accept our apologies for the necessity of such action. We believe that when you bought Sony, you bought the best, and we have a duty to ensure this.
